Notice Regarding the Current Status of Tuition Refunds for International Students

We would like to provide international students and representatives of educational agencies with an update on the current status of tuition refunds.
1. Regarding Tuition Refunds
We would like to provide information on the current status and future procedures concerning tuition refunds, which are of greatest concern to our international students.
First, Regarding the Filing of Tuition Refund Claims
Singyeongju University filed an application with the court for the commencement of rehabilitation proceedings on July 23, 2026. On August 25, 2026, the court issued an order commencing rehabilitation proceedings, and the relevant decision was officially announced.
Accordingly, the University’s rehabilitation proceedings are now formally underway under the supervision of the court.
Following the court’s order commencing rehabilitation proceedings, claims will be filed in accordance with the claim-filing period and procedures determined by the court. The unrefunded tuition fees owed to international students also constitute claims to be addressed through the rehabilitation proceedings.
Following the commencement of the rehabilitation proceedings, the rehabilitation administrator will carry out relevant procedures, including the preparation and submission of a list of creditors to the court. The University will carefully review the relevant records and faithfully carry out all necessary procedures to ensure that the unrefunded tuition claims of international students are accurately reflected in the rehabilitation proceedings.
In addition, in order to ensure that international students do not suffer any disadvantage in connection with the filing of their claims, the University will provide separate guidance as soon as the claim-filing period, filing procedures, and required documents determined by the court are confirmed.
Second, Regarding the Timing and Procedures for Tuition Refunds
Following the court’s order commencing rehabilitation proceedings on August 25, tuition refunds will no longer be processed according to a schedule independently determined by the University. Instead, they will be carried out in accordance with the supervision of the rehabilitation court and the procedures of the rehabilitation proceedings.
Considering the various procedures currently underway, as well as the court’s review and decisions, the University currently anticipates that the finalization of the rehabilitation proceedings and major related decisions by the court will take place around December 2026.
Please note, however, that this is an anticipated timeline, and the schedule may be subject to change depending on the court’s review and the progress of the relevant proceedings.
The University plans to begin processing tuition refunds sequentially in accordance with the court’s decisions and procedures immediately upon completion of the court’s final decisions and the relevant procedures.
Therefore, the specific schedule and order of tuition refunds will be determined based on the court’s decisions and the progress of the rehabilitation proceedings. The University will continue to make all necessary preparations so that tuition refunds can be processed as promptly as possible.
2. The University’s Position and Future Updates
Singyeongju University is currently in a situation where, following the declaration of bankruptcy, an order commencing rehabilitation proceedings has also been issued. Accordingly, the rehabilitation proceedings aimed at enabling the continued operation of the University and addressing claims of creditors are now fully underway.
The University recognizes the issue of tuition refunds for international students, together with the issue of unpaid wages, as one of its highest-priority matters. We will actively cooperate with the rehabilitation proceedings and make all necessary preparations so that tuition refunds can be made to international students as promptly as possible.
As soon as major matters are confirmed, including the progress of the rehabilitation proceedings, major decisions by the court, matters concerning the filing of claims, and the procedures and schedule for tuition refunds, the University will continue to provide updates through its official website.
We also ask international students and representatives of educational agencies to refer to official information provided by the University rather than relying on unconfirmed information or rumors, in order to avoid unnecessary confusion or concern regarding tuition refunds.
We sincerely ask for your understanding regarding the considerable concern and inconvenience caused to our international students as a result of this unprecedented situation, in which the University is dealing with both a declaration of bankruptcy and the commencement of rehabilitation proceedings.
